ACE Basin Kayak Tour
RICE FIELDS, BLACKWATER CREEKS & A STORIED HISTORY
Kayak down inky blackwater creeks and rivers in the ACE Basin, just inland of Beaufort and the Sea Islands.
PADDLE THROUGH A FLOODED FOREST ON THE ACE BASIN KAYAK TOUR
Some of the most beautiful places we explore are only accessible by kayak. The ACE Basin is a biological wonderland supported by a network of creeks and swamps, old growth forests and rice fields. Migratory birds return here year after year to nest and feed among these native trees, grasses and wildflowers.
THE EXPERIENCE
The ACE Basin is a model for conservation between government, environmental non-profits and private landowners, collectively protecting this watershed of three major rivers: Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto, the ACE. We’ll go back in time as our experienced guides lead you through these tidal blackwater creeks and hidden passages that only a kayak can access.
As we paddle past rice fields, you’ll hear about the history of this region going back to Native Americans and up to the enslaved people who worked this land. We’ll break for lunch on a creek bank before heading back through wildflower-laden freshwater trails.
Depending on the tides and time of year, we may explore any of the rivers that give the ACE its name: the Ashepoo, Combahee, or Edisto!
