Beaufort Oyster Ecotour
LEARN ABOUT WILD OYSTERS
The humble oyster is the backbone of Lowcountry culture and cuisine, but did you know it is also an integral member of the salt marsh estuary? Join us on the water to celebrate the 2024 Beaufort Oyster Festival and learn all about wild oysters and their importance to the salt marsh estuary that makes up 50% of Beaufort County!
FUN & EDUCATIONAL
The estuaries behind St Helena Island are home to beautiful expanses of oyster reefs that work to filter the water in the estuary and provide habitat to hundreds of different creatures. This tour departs from our Basecamp on St Helena, conveniently located near remarkable oyster reefs and other ecologically significant areas like Hunting Island State Park.
WILDLIFE & STUNNING VIEWS
Oysters aren’t the only wildlife you’ll see! This rich habitat attracts dolphins, bald eagles, ospreys, pelicans, blue crabs, herons, ibises and more.
Our guides will deepen your understanding of the area’s ecology by sharing about the local islands and waterways, how development decisions can impact oysters, and more.
